Ste. Mr glise, Normandy, France On the night of June 6, 1944, John Steele, an American parachutist, entangled himself on the church clock tower. This event was recreated in "The Longest Day". Steele became a local celebrity, returning every year to reenact the event and eventually moved to Ste. Mr glise before he passed away. Since then, a manequin has taken his place on the church tower.
